It’s strange for me to consider myself as a technology laggard, but I have to admit, I don’t own a digital video recorder. If you are like me, the week is so filled with commuting, errands, after school activities, homework, etc., that finding any time to sit down and watch a recorded program, even without commercials, is difficult.
As reasonable as TiVo’s subscriptions costs are, I found an acceptable alternative using the Internet. The growing digitization and availability of content on the Internet provides me with the basic “time-shifting” benefit of viewing programs that I am not there to watch when they are originally broadcasted. Granted, it may not have the same features or quality as TiVo, but it is good enough.
Watching a replay of the evening news or a cable broadcast program at a time and place of my convenience, at no additional cost, works for me. I imagine it is working for many others as well. Destination video sites like Veoh or Babelgum are gaining traction.
We also see increasingly strong interest in the use and delivery of video content on our customer’s websites. As more people get familiar with this delivery method, it will be fascinating to see how this trend unfolds.
